GRADUATE ASSISTANT - Position Information


Position Summary:

The Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support at Saint Joseph's University is seeking two enthusiastic and creative individuals for the 2014-2015 summer semester and academic year to serve as Graduate Assistants. This is a competitive award based on academic performance, related experiences, skills in autism and research, and general suitability for such a position. The Assistantship is open to all students enrolled in related Master's Degree Programs at Saint Joseph's University or a current SJU senior who will be attending graduate school at SJU in Fall 2014. This award may be renewed each semester depending on performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collecting data and reporting research
  • Coordinating and planning Kinney Center Programs and Services
  • Staffing Kinney Programs
  • Representing the University and Kinney Center at local conferences
  • Supervising the Kinney Center's SCHOLARS program
  • Managing program participants' information
  • Assisting with training sessions, presentations, and special events
  • Managing Autism Speaks' Autism U initiative at SJU
  • Evening and weekend hours required: a combination of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings for entire Fall and Spring semesters, occasional Friday evenings, and occasional Saturday mornings.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a full time student and able to take 9 credits per semester
  • Must be accepted into a Master's Degree Program at SJU in 2014
  • Must have the ability to complete 20 hours per week of service at the Kinney Center
  • Must be academically qualified (GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred)
  • Experience with and knowledge about autism and behavior analysis preferred
  • Must be able to work during the summer 2014 semester
  • Must have required PA state clearances for 2014.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Evening and weekend hours required: a combination of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings for entire Fall and Spring semesters, occasional Friday evenings, and occasional Saturday mornings.

  • Submit a letter of application that includes a statement of your interest and unique qualifications for the position; address the letter to Mrs. Ryan Hammond
  • Provide verification of acceptance/enrollment into a Master's Degree Program at SJU or evidence that you are in the process of applying to a graduate program at SJU
  • Submit one letter of recommendation from a person qualified to assess your capabilities for graduate work and ability for the 20-hour Kinney Center assignment.
