The Kinney Centerfor Autism Education and Support

has a two-fold mission: to educate and train the autism professionals of tomorrow, while supporting and serving the individuals and families affected by autism today.

The Kinney Center seeks students with high aspirations of serving children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), their families, schools, service providers and community. Students will be challenged to approach the autism field in a creative, spirited and meaningful way, and to work to produce the best possible outcomes for those with ASD. The Kinney Center is committed to helping individuals with autism live greater.

SibShops offer brothers and sisters of individuals with autism an opportunity to obtain peer support and education in a recreational context. This program encourages children to share their feelings and experiences with other brothers and sisters in similar unique situations.

The Kinney Center's Transitional Social Skills Program helps adolescents with autism (ages 14 to 18 years old) improve social interaction skills in a group-learning environment, while beginning instruction on life and vocational skills. Instruction will also emphasize generalization of skills across different settings, and long-term maintenance of skills after the program's end.

Those with ASD can achieve great collegiate success, and the College Bound Retreat program is individualized support to kick-start the accomplishment of these educational goals. Attendees identify which schools are successfully supporting those with ASD and learn about living away from home, choosing an area of study and using social skills to navigate a college campus and relationships.

On Saturday evenings during the academic year the Kinney Center hosts monthly installments of Family Night Out. This recreational program is a great opportunity to drop-off your child for a night of fun and guided support. Running at the same time as our SibShops, the Kinney Center has entertainment for the whole family! Reclaim three hours on a Saturday to catch up on life or just relax.

Join Kinney's theater program where SCHOLARS will work to support learners in creative development and participation throughout the program, including socialization skills such as greeting peers, following directions, asking for help, taking turns, eye contact, and modeling of theater skills such as script reading, set building, and creativity.
