Registration for Camp Kinney 2014 is now open!
Summer should be a time for fun, imagination, and social growth for all children. The Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support offers a day camp designed to bring the meaning of summer to children with autism, to let kids be kids while growing socially. Camp Kinney provides a traditional experience for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ages 3-14, offering positive recreational activities along with opportunities to interact with "neurotypical" peers. Camp Kinney is accredited by the American Camp Association.
Camp Kinney is designed to promote both fun and learning by emphasizing the development of social skills. The activities are highly structured and fun-filled. A weekly social theme is reviewed and integrated in daily routines. Each activity begins with a thorough explanation of what is expected, how long an activity will last and how to appropriately ask for alternative activities if needed.
Campers receive customized visual schedules and/or written lists of what they will be doing and many opportunities for choices throughout the day.

Camp runs Monday through Thursday, 10 AM to 3 PM. Campers are organized into age groups. Campers on the autism spectrum are provided with 1:1 support. They rotate daily between three designated Saint Joseph's University SCHOLARS to provide opportunities for generalization.
At this time, individuals who exhibit severe behavior problems such as aggression cannot be accommodated at Camp Kinney.
Due to the educational component of the Kinney Center, at various times, students enrolled in the autism minor or certificate program will be observing Kinney Center programs as part of their coursework.
In the case of inclement weather where a program must be canceled, sessions will not be made up due to time and space restrictions.
The number of campers this program can accommodate is limited. Parents are encouraged to register early. A non-refundable $20.00 application fee is required. Campers must be signed up for a minimum of 2 weeks. Upon acceptance, camp fees must be paid by May 1st to guarantee a spot in the program. A limited number of financial assistance scholarships are available to families with strong financial need, subject to administrative approval. The Kinney Center also offers a "sibling discount" to families with more than one child enrolled in the same program.
Due to staffing constraints, all available camp durations start on June 30, 2014. You are only permitted to register for a camp duration that starts on June 30, 2014. For example, you are not permitted to register for 2 weeks from July 8 to July 18. If you would like your child to attend from July 8 to July 18, you will have to register and pay for "3 Weeks - July 1 - July 18" unless otherwise noted. Sorry for the inconvenience.
